OVER TIME, MESSAGE BEATS MONEY. ALWAYS. Gingrich benefits from a long campaign since false attack ads have diminishing returns over time as the truth gets out about Gingrich’s compelling record and his bold solutions for returning America to jobs and growth—especially his plan for $2.50 gas. He is the only candidate talking about conservative solutions to our country’s problems. And Newt is staying in the race to Tampa so he can do that. As a result, he’s poised to win. Good policy is good politics.
At same time, as Romney’s money advantage becomes less of an equalizer for him, more people learning the facts about Romney’s liberal governing record in Massachusetts. Also over time people are learning that Romney is only competitive in most states when he can outspend his conservative opponents 20 to 1.
People are realizing that Romney will never be able to outspend Barack Obama with attack ads. Something else is needed to beat Obama: a positive vision of conservative governance. And this is a something else that Mitt simply isn’t able to offer. Newt is the one who can.
